She lived pleasantly once, was able to smile, able to connect with others. Her younger sister, who was so carefree and happy had taught her to live that way, to take things as they came. But that all changed when the mutant force shattered her life to pieces. Anastasia had always had the skills needed to be a warrior. The strength and intelligence needed to join the ranks of the demon army, but she'd never been interested mostly due in part to her sister who cared for everything on this world no matter the opinions of others. That lack of interest was gone when her sister had become infected in a fight with a mutant.

She would never forget the last moment she saw her sister, how slow time seemed to move as her sister looked her in the eye, smiled lovingly, then shot a bullet through her head.

It was unbearable. She suffered many nights wondering how her sister could do something like that to her. How could she leave her? It took many nights for the answer to become apparent. Her sister made a sacrifice. But in no way did the answer make Anastasia feel better. The loss of her sister and the memory of it all only made her turn bitter and cold. She vowed to herself that she would never let anyone in again and that her only reason for living was to kill every single mutant that came across her path, to rid the world of this disease that took her sister's life.

She wasn't a typical vampire, had never been. She grew up all alone, depended only upon herself because she didn't have anyone else. Day after day was a constant struggle for food and shelter. Everyone could care less about her. She managed to survive somehow, but it wasn't a happy existence. There was one day in her life that stood out from the rest though. One day where her view on things had been completely changed...

One night outside of her safety sphere, she'd gotten attacked by a werewolf. It was nothing uncommon. She shouldn't have been wandering outside, but she had and got herself into big trouble. Still a young vampire and in her developing stages, she was far too weak for a grown werewolf. He beat her down, thrashed her fragile body about leaving her with broken ribs and a bleeding jaw. When she thought another hit would end her life, the fight was stopped momentarily by another werewolf who had appeared. The newly arrived werewolf wanted a piece of the action and the other werewolf agreed, fleeing the scene. She was sure her death had only been postponed for their conversation, but the werewolf seemed to take pity on her and helped her. He spared her life and let her live another day.

From then on, she couldn't be like other vampires. She could pretend to despise werewolves all she wanted, but the truth was it was a werewolf that had saved her. It was a werewolf that had been the only one to ever care for her. But she couldn't make that known. She'd be outcast or worse, killed. She had to hide everything she truly felt for her own survival. And that is how she became so arrogant, so hostile, and so fake. She had to fit in with the others or she'd die.

And with the survival skills she had learned, she was noticed and wanted in a special vampire task force. How could she say no? Food and shelter, that's all she had ever wanted.

Childish, impulsive, even annoying. That's how she was and she was aware of it. That's how she wanted to be. It was her escape from reality, her escape from the guilt that ate her up inside. Rayna was no cold-hearted killer, but somehow she'd managed to get herself into the wrong place at the wrong time. It was all an accident to be honest, but to her, she was a murderer. Nothing but a murderer.

It was a dark night and she was on the prowl. Ferals were known best for their hunting skills. They were felines after all. Stealthy and agile, they made the perfect assassins. Rayna was doing her usual routine - hunting down mutants and killing those bastards. It was nothing unusual for her. She'd found a pack of mutants, splitting off into the wilderness - a perfect opportunity for her. There she went, picking them off one by one, her silenced pistol in hand as she snuck up on them and shot each one in the head. Finally, she reached the last one, which seemed to be smarter than the rest as it was also sneaking around. She figured it had noticed its fellow mutants missing. But no matter, she still managed to sneak up on the mutant and get a clear shot through the head. But when she walked over to the body to confirm that it was dead, her heart stopped in shock as she eyed the distinct features of a reptile.

She didn't quite remember what she did after that. To this day, all she could conjure up was the hazy memory of running away and losing every emotional battle to the guilt that plagued her. Her only solution was to shut off her mind, to allow the ignorance to wash over her and numb her mind.
